Asian Eye Institute Refractive/LASIK Service Director, Dr. Robert Ang, recently received the 2020 Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology (PAO) Dr. Geminiano de Ocampo Outstanding Researcher in Ophthalmology Award.
A multi-awarded doctor and active researcher, Dr. Ang was recognized for pioneering eye care solutions and treatments that impacted the lives of Filipinos.
The award is given in memory and in honor of Dr. Geminiano de Ocampo, a national scientist in the field of Ophthalmology and the Father of Modern Philippine Ophthalmology. He was a visionary man who devoted his knowledge and lifetime laying the foundation of ophthalmology in the Philippines.
In August this year, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) granted Dr. Ang the Best Paper of Session Award for his research paper entitled “Implantation of Small Aperture Intraocular Lens (IOL) in Post-Refractive Surgery Eyes”. This research showed that patients who previously had LASIK or PRK surgery enjoy clear vision after being implanted with an IC-8 Implantable Ocular Lens (IOL) during their cataract surgery.
