Cataract Surgery

One of the most effective ways to treat cataracts is through surgery. Asian Eye Institute has the specialists and facilities to offer this procedure.

A Primer on Cataract Surgery:
Important Things To Know About the Procedure

Cataracts are a common eye problem characterized by the clouding of the eye’s natural lens. It is one of the leading causes of vision loss around the world, so it is necessary to have it treated as early as possible. At Asian Eye Institute, we provide two options to patients with this condition: VICTUS Femtosecond Laser cataract surgery and conventional cataract surgery.

What Happens During Cataract Surgery?

In many cases, cataract surgery is an outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia. During the operation, the surgeon will use specialized instruments to delicately remove and replace the cloudy lens with an intraocular lens. Patients generally experience a rapid recovery as long as they follow their doctor’s post-operative care instructions.

VICTUS Femtosecond Laser Cataract Surgery

This surgery uses the VICTUS Femtosecond Laser to create an incision on the cornea and open the capsule to access and break the cataract. This procedure is more precise and ensures better visual outcomes for patients. Asian Eye Institute is the only eye care facility in the Philippines that has the VICTUS Femtosecond Laser by Bausch + Lomb that can be used for cataract and LASIK surgeries.

Conventional Cataract Surgery

In traditional cataract surgery, a blade or a knife is used to make an incision on the cornea. The capsule is then manually opened to access the cataract, then a chopper instrument will be used to break it. This procedure is safe and effective, as well as more affordable than the VICTUS Femtosecond Laser surgery.

Why Get Cataract Surgery

The best thing about cataract surgery is that it is an incredibly effective procedure with a high success rate. Patients who have lost their vision (either partially or totally) can regain their eyesight after healing. This helps improve their quality of life, allowing them to perform daily tasks again.

Doctors recommend regular comprehensive eye exams as these procedures help assess the overall health of your eyes and determine if there are problems that need to be addressed. These tests are necessary to evaluate if you need glasses or require prompt treatment for certain conditions that may worsen over time.

Corneal Cross-linking

CXL is a preventative measure against the further thinning or bulging of the cornea due to certain diseases (like keratoconus) or other factors. The treatment is minimally invasive and is pivotal in maintaining the natural shape of the cornea. If it is successful, patients will no longer have to undergo corneal transplants.
