What Do Our Past Patients Say About Our Eye Care Services?

Over the years, we have greatly impacted the lives of the countless patients we have helped. We are proud of the positive experiences they had here at Asian Eye Institute, so we collected testimonials and reviews from them. They serve as proof of our team’s dedication to providing quality eye care.
“YOU CAN’T SEE ME!” NO, JOHN CENA. I CAN SEE YOU — CLEARLY! I’ve been wearing eyeglasses since 4th grade. I’ve managed to keep my prescription eyeglasses at 2.25 or less, despite my love of reading and watching TV series. However, during the pandemic, my eyesight deteriorated due to the 24/7 work we were doing for our COVID-19 operations in OVP and the 2022 campaign. With my small eyes, contact lenses are not an option for me. I often struggle with the inconvenience of wearing eyeglasses; from having to take them off for photos to keeping them intact when running or moving around because it keeps slipping down my nose. Wearing glasses to parties has sometimes been a struggle, as well as having to pick an outfit that works with my eyewear. Now that I have the luxury to take a long leave from work after months (or years!)of doing heavy multimedia work, I have decided it’s time for me to reward myself with LASIK — to see things clearly, literally and figuratively. I chose @asianeyeinstitute as my go-to eye institute not only because it’s PiVOT’s sister company, but it’s the only eye institute in the Philippines that makes use of the latest generation Victus Femtosecond Laser and Teneo 2 Excimer Laser. With Dr. Robert Ang —a multi-awarded doctor, who was recognized for pioneering eye care solutions and treatments— as my doctor, I knew I was in the best hands. I had my comprehensive eye exam a and had my FEMTO LASIK surgery last April 4th. The procedure was quick with minimal discomfort and no pain. After being given some eyedrops to take home, I slept and finally woke up with a 20/20 vision Definitely life changing! Thank you, Lord! #femtolasik #asianeyeinstitute

Believe me, this is the best life-changing decision ever!!!! Finally, I got my ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) surgery done to correct my vision. Never knew how it is going to be(as this is a new technology to cure astigmatism, myopia, hyperopia, and presbyopia), but I was very clear on what to expect–20/20 vision without the help of contact lenses or eyeglasses which I have been wearing for more than 30 years. Now I’m living the dream with my brand new eyes! Thanks so much for working your magic on me, Dr. Robert Ang, the Chair of Refractive Surgery of @asianeyeinstitute! I can only entrust my eyes to you and to my whole Asian Eye Institute family, who assisted me with ease during the entire procedure!! I’m still recovering but can’t hide my excitement to see the world in a new light! #day1postop #implantablecollamerlens #milestoneunlocked #tgbtg #asianeyeinstitute

And of course, expected natin, expected ko, na in a few months ay talagang, wow! Ang ganda na talaga ng vision ko. Alam ninyo po, 5 years akong nagsuot ng eyeglasses. Bilang ako’y isang nanay na napaka-active, talagang sagabal sa akin ang naka-eyeglasses. It’s my choice na magpa-LASIK, magpa-eye surgery.  Kaya ngayon naman, sa wakas, ay nagawa ko na. Matagal kong panahon na plinano o pinangarap na magpa-eye surgery. Since nag-40 ako, talagang lumabo na po lahat. So it’s been 5 years na ako ay naka-eyeglasses. Ngayon, wala na at kitang-kita ko na kayo. Kaya maraming, maraming salamat, Dr. Robert Ang, for taking care of my eyesight. Thank you very much, Asian Eye Institute.

Eye See You!! Guys I can’t even begin to tell you how AMAZING air feels to wake up and see CLEAR AS DAY!!!!!✨✨✨ What a gift!!!! I have had eyeglasses since I was 8 years old and contact lenses since I was 11. My eyes over the years just got progressively worse reaching a high -5.50 I never considered corrective surgery because I was afraid but it came to the point that my contacts were always dry and itchy and causing me allergies. It was untenable. I decided to take the plunge and went in to @asianeyeinstitute to inquire about LASIK. After the screening they said I wasn’t a candidate and I was so crushed BUT they told me they had an even BETTER solution!!!! ICL! Implantable Collamer Lens! ✨✨✨ Swipe to see the videos of the results! To learn more, swipe to the end to see the amazing Dr. Ang explain what it is and why it’s an incredible option for those with bad eyesight like me. ICL is what pilots and athletes do! And today my vision is actually better than 20/20!!! Haha I have eagle eye 20/15! I am beyond amazed at the science of it all and the incredible service and professionalism of @asianeyeinstitute !!! I highly recommend a consult!!!

Finally 20/20 vision. After a a number of tests I passed for Lasik surgery. The operation was painless & quick. I felt at ease to know they use the best technology combined with the best doctors. My vision before Lasik was 3.35 & 2.25 and after Lasik I have 20/20 vision! Thank you to the best Dr. Ang and the whole team of @asianeyeinstitute. See you at my next check up.

LASIK

According to Dr Ang, my eyesight can still get bad if I don’t take care of it (he advised to take a rest every 3 hours of non-stop screentime) and there are other factors such as age. Also I have to now frequently use drops until my eyes are completely healed. Did it deter me from having lasik done? No. In fact I would rather have it corrected now and have slightly blurry eyesight due to age than be completely reliant on my heavy eye wear. First things first. Make sure you undergo proper screening test to evaluate if you are a candidate for lasik. If not, there is PRK and ICL as options as well (under AEI). My screening test took about 4 to 4.5 hours. So better allot a whole day in your calendar. Anyway, I am happy that I had my lasik at @asianeyeinstitute. I was confident with their lasik devices and of course Dr Ang and his staff. They also give you full protective gear and will ask for an antigen test for everyone’s safety. – According to @americanoptometricassociation having 20/20 vision means you can clearly see at 20 feet what should normally be seen at a distance. You also have normal clarity and sharpness of vision. #lasik #lasikprocedure #myopia #eyesight #asianeye #asianeyeinstitute #eyesurgery #icl #prk

woke up with 20/20 vision. so happy about my ICL surgery done yesterday at @asianeyeinstitute by Dr. Robert T. Ang. before getting it, i had worn contact lenses and glasses for the longest time while dealing with constant dry eyes & still having to squint to see things. day 1 post surgery and my vision is unbelievably so much better. the process was quick & pain-free! i’m so, so happy. why ICL & not lasik? * there’s no need to worry about the occurrence of dry eyes. but in lasik, this might happen. * the lenses are permanent and there’s no need to maintain them. * it takes only about 15-20 minutes for both eyes. * the lens is used to treat: myopia, hyperopia & astigmatism * it can fix severe nearsightedness that can’t be corrected with other surgeries. * the lenses offer good night vision. post surgery: will need to rest for about two weeks, wear goggles day & night, avoid working out & makeup. 🙂

I know the struggle of wearing contact lenses and eyeglasses. If you have the means to eliminate it, then take it. BECAUSE YOUR EYES ARE WORTH IT. Femto Lasik (Laser Eye Surgery) Dr. Robert T. Ang Asian Eye Institute Rockwell July 26, 2022 Eye grade yesterday: 300 / 300 Eye grade today: 20 / 20 BAKIT AKO NAGPA-LASIK ? Wearing eyeglasses for 20+ years. Wearing contact lens for 10+ years. I value my eyeglasses and contact lenses. Dahil dun, lumilinaw vision ko. Pero deep inside, alam kong mas gagaan ang buhay ko kapag hindi ko na sila kailangan suotin ever. Matagal na ako nag-iisip magpa-lasik. Unsure lang ako because of so many things (safe ba, magkano, gaano katagal, etc). OR LESS Femto Lasik Procedure takes 15 minutes for each eye. Pero the screening time and the waiting time is a different story. ✔️ PENNILESS After magbayad for the surgery, naging penniless na ako. Char. Make sure may savings ka, dahil hindi sagot ng HMO (Maxicare) ang mismong Lasik surgery. Masakit sa bulsa. But once nakita mo na ang result, it’s worth every penny I’m sharing this experience because I know the struggle of wearing contact lenses and eyeglasses. If you have the means to eliminate it, then take it. BECAUSE YOUR EYES ARE WORTH IT.

Painless yung lasik as in parang 30 to 35 minutes tapos na ako and then no pain during and after nung surgery. Hindi lang talaga makadilat kasi bagong opera.
Pero the day after nung surgery, super okay na yung feeling.

I asked God for clarity and He gave it Been wearing corrective lenses ever since I can remember (probably over 20 years) and it has been a love-hate relationship. No more contacts drying up or getting lost and glasses slipping off my nose to worry about. I feel limitless!! Ngl, it was not the most comfortable experience – I was scared with all the lights and pressure in my eyes even under the care of the best in the profession. But hell yea it was worth it! Thanks for the care @asianeyeinstitute and Dr. Ang. Procedure day, since I’m an adult na, unlike my papa na he had cardio clearance pa for his eye surgery, I did not. I was only required for their antigen nasopharyngeal swab test na inhouse na sa kanila. After almost an hour, you will have result na and if negative then you will proceed na to have the eye surgery on another floor. Again, may mga ipapatak sayo and measuring pupil size. The procedure is very swift tbh, since gising ka naman I think wala pang 5 minutes, tapos na both eyes. Idk if I’m exaggerating basta it felt fast lang. Basta may tititigan ka Lang then it will blur then may parang wash lang then bandage contact lens and that was it, tapos na. Next eye na then voila tapos na malinaw na. Sobrang nakakaiyak after procedure kasi nabasa ko Yung Asian Eye Institute clearly sa wall sa OR as in very sharp image talaga. I can’t thank my doctor enough talaga. After nun I was instilled na with post op eye drops and a nurse will attend to you for post op care and baon mong eye drops. Masakit ba? Wala. Zero pain. Uncomfortable? Yes yung sa pag dilate lang ng mata yung not comfy talaga. I thought nga mag tapout ako just seconds pagka higa ko pero nahiya ako sa doctor ko hahaha. Lakasan ang loob. [Post surgery] Pain? Again there was no pain pain but it’s more of occasional sting lang na happened around day 2 post op. Tolerable. Here’s the catch, you have to endure to be in a batcave for 3 days. Literally ayoko idilat Mata ko but I have to because of the eye drops na I have to religiously instill. May post op care instructions naman and it’s fully expected lahat ng nangyari sakin. There were episodes of glares especially at night din. Things got better on Day 4. then Day 7. Pero contact lens will be removed by this time so parang lumabo siya ulit na gradually lilinaw pero unnoticeable na yung occasional blur after 2 weeks. I felt really happy na din Day 30 and sinabihan na din ako na pwede Na mag swimming by this time (Di ko pa naman ginawa haha). *Note lang na you have to religiously follow the eye drops para madali healing mo and eat properly din and yung HYDRATION mo din in general affects din yung mata mo Here is the post op progress pala of my eye grade based on my follow up check up: Day 1 20/40 right 20/35 left Day 5 20/25 right 20/20, 0.50 astigmatism left Day 7 20/25 right 20/20 left Day 30 20/20 both eyes Day 90 20/15 Nakakaiyak lang yung huling follow up ko kasi I never thought na grabe yung progress na maeexperience ko pala ganito kalinaw na mata huhu tuwang tuwa din sila Doc sa progress as in lahat sila happy na you’re exceeding pa the expected vision. Verdict: I highly recommend Asian Eye Institute talaga. Well explained lahat. I felt really really safe. Very accommodating ang service nila be it doctors, nurses and other staff, high technology and strict sila sa appointments talaga kasi andami nilang patients and dahil dun ang hirap humanap lang ng parking haha. Kainis.

New year, new eyes! Documenting this milestone after 5 years of going from one eye doctor to another, I’m finally 20-20 ❤ Back story: I was born with what you call a lazy eye / amblyopia (along with the 2% of the population ). My brain focuses on one eye and I rely on that for my vision. This makes my eye grade so extreme – left eye at 1,000 (the lazy eye) and 150 for the right, which increased further to 300 (stronger one). Grateful for Dr. Robert Ang of Asian Eye and his team for giving me the best solution to my weird eye situation ☺ I still need to fully recover from the one month back and forth to the eye center but yay thankful for a successful eye surgery

Life-changing update: Less than twenty-four hours post-surgery and I’m well, and without any pain or discomfort. Thank you for your prayers and messages!! For those asking via direct message, I have been suffering from migraines for a number of years now. And in my line of work, having very clear vision is key. Hence, why I decided to inquire about the possibility of undergoing LASIK surgery. Upon the advice of Dr. Ang of the @asianeyeinstitute, who also happened to do my mother-in-law’s LASIK surgery over twenty-years ago, I was scheduled for the procedure. It took less than half an hour and was generally painless, with very minimal discomfort. I felt slight nervousness before the procedure, but Dr. Ang and his team were very thorough, and were specially reassuring during the procedure. I even asked “That was it?!, after. Everyone laughed and this made me feel quite triumphant! I had my first post-operative check-up earlier today and I have been successfully given clearance to resume with my daily activities beginning tomorrow, but to limit screen time as much as possible. Regaining my vision has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Do consult with @asianeyeinstitute for any of your concerns regarding vision, as you will be in very capable hands. Thank you again @asianeyeinstitute for the great service!

LASIK is indeed life-changing! I love how I could do every activity I want and look pretty without eyeglasses as a bonus. I’m not suffering from migraines anymore every time my eye grade would go high every year. I wake up with clear vision, go to all events without wearing contact lenses that cause irritated and dry eyes at the end of the day.

My eyes were getting weary from wearing contact lenses all day for the past fifteen years. I decided to go to Asian Eye because it’s the no.1 expert in LASIK surgery in the country. While I had hesitations, I changed my mind because Dr. Ang explained well each and every step of the procedure. I knew I was in good hands. I’m very, very satisfied with my TransPRK treatment, especially now that I’m enjoying clear, “bionic” vision.

I decided to get LASIK at Asian Eye because I got good feedback from my in-laws. My doctor, Dr. Robert Ang, was friendly and easy to talk to. He was able to explain LASIK in detail. I would recommend Asian Eye to my family and friends because the doctors are very good and the place is very clean and safe.

I’ve been wearing eye glasses and contact lenses since I was 14. It’s become second nature to wake up in the morning and reach over for my glasses, make sure I have my lens case and solution by my bedside, buy new lenses and solution on a regular basis, carry eye drops in my purse, and squint to SEE when I didn’t have either…It was SO deeply ingrained in my everyday routine, like brushing my teeth and combing my hair, that for a long time I didn’t feel the need to fix my eye sight. I only started entertaining the idea 2 years ago when I had Luca. It was impractical and extremely annoying as a new mother, to wake up several times in the middle of the night and wear my glasses which would repeatedly fall off my face, or to put on contacts early in the morning which would make my eyes very dry. I thought it was about time I finally did something about it. I looked back at all the times I struggled with them…That day I joined a swimming competition and lost a lens mid relay, or the time I went scubadiving and had an allergic reaction because of my contacts, or the numerous times I accidentally went to sleep and woke up the next morning having to fish them out somehow from the top of my eyelid. And just traveling, in general, was always a hassle. I thought, WHY deal with this any longer? I’ve become so accustomed to it. Imagine waking up in a world where I can see in 20/20 without having to wear anything on my eyes!? What a dream. Well that dream finally became reality After many months of delaying it, I finally mustered up the courage to do Lasik. I was so afraid that it would be painful, that there’d be a long recovery, and what if they accidentally damage my eyes forever?? I did thorough research and sat down with the team at Asian Eye Institute and they were able to answer all my questions and gave me the reassurance I needed. It is one of the BEST things I’ve ever done for myself. My only regret was to not have done it sooner! For anyone who feels the same way and are curious to learn more about lasik and my experience at Asian Eye please DM me, and I will be happy to share it with you!

Finally went back to the Asian Eye Institute for LASIK on my left eye! Already had it done on my right eye a few years ago, but at that time I was so scared to come back for the left. I was so anxious. It was all in the head, really, cause it happens so fast and you don’t feel a thing. So for years now, I’ve only had one good eye.  But I went back because I was starting to have headaches a little more often, and I found out that my left eye had already gone from 250 to 400+!  I’m soooo so happy to have finally done this. Dr. Ang is the best! He talked me through the entire procedure and it kept me calm. (And I was singing Whom Shall I Fear the whole time in my head, so it was easy peasy hihi ) Really looking forward to having better vision soon  Thank you so much for taking great care of me, @asianeyeinstitute!

Ever wondering what actually happens during Lasik surgery?
So I finally decided to take the plunge and have my eyes fixed. After hours of research I decided to go to Asian Eye Institute in Rockwell because I’ve only heard good things about them. For me, it seemed like a risky situation so I wanted the best. Seriously, the future of my vision would rest the hands of one doctor, Dr. Bobby Ang, so he had to be good.
My first appointment was all about testing, testing and more testing. I knew we were being cautious and using all these high tech machines so that put me at ease.
On the day of my surgery I was a bit nervous. Dr. Bobby assured me that it’s very simple and painless. Which it definitely was. It was awkward more than anything because while your eyes are numb during the surgery, you can still see everything. But as Doc Bobby said, painless and fast. The operation itself took probably just a couple minutes. Some waiting around and preparation unloved so all in all about 1 hour. If I wasn’t so talkative probably only 20 minutes.
Fast forward to now. I can see perfectly fine. Absolutely no problems. There was a short period of adjustment but as soon as I got home that day I could read a lot better. Today, I have no use for glasses, I can read all my cue cards while hosting without squinting. It’s been such a great experience and I’m so glad I had the operation.
If you’re thinking about having Lasik then talk to the people at Asian Eye Institute. They are definitely highly recommended by me at least. Shot on @sonyphinc #A7sii

Each eye took only about 10 minutes and Dr. Robert Ang of @asianeyeinstitute guided me all throughout. The team did such an amazing job! There’s nothing else I had to do but keep still and look into the burst of red lights! It was that easy. I woke up 3am this morning, took a shower and prayed for Eddie’s successful cataract eye surgery scheduled at 6am today at the world-class Asian Eye Institute (Rockwell Branch) with Dr. Robert Edward Ang, the best in his field. Cataract is the clouding of the eye’s natural lens which causes foggy vision, difficulty seeing at night and sensitivity to light and glare. If left untreated, It may lead to it may lead to reversible blindness. Eddie got clearance from Healthcube Medical Clinic which provides the best, personalized outpatient health care. Thank you, Daisy, for assisting us. After 4 hours of praying and waiting, Eddie came out of the operating room with a big smile. His right eye can see clearly now! We will be back for the left eye. ❤️ Thank you Dr. Ang, all the nurses and staff of Asian Eye Institute who took care of my Eduardo. It is a Happy Valentine’s Day indeed!! ❤️

Cataract Surgery

I had held off having cataract surgery for a long, long time for two reasons: my eye doctor in Washington DC passed away, and I was scared to undergo the procedure. I think it was more the second than the first. For 10 years, I went about my existence as a virtually blind person. How I managed to navigate through the airports of Africa, Europe and Asia—where my job took me—is difficult to imagine now in hindsight, and which I am inclined to attribute to a miracle. The catalyst was a near-miss at one airport when I was mistakenly checked into a wrong flight and destination, and I did not even notice. Luckily, the mistake was detected at the gate, and there was enough time to correct it and to run to the right gate, so I made it to Spain. On a recent visit to Manila, a friend mentioned the Asian Eye Institute. I immediately gathered some background information from the AEI website and then called for an appointment. A date was confirmed with Dr. Sharlene Noguera. On arrival at the AEI on the appointed date, I was required to register, which I did with the help of a cousin who came with me (keep in mind I was blind so she completed the form on my behalf). We were then asked to wait. The television in the waiting room blaring a local drama program almost turned me off the place. But we tuned out the drama from our minds and focused on the form. Mercifully, we didn’t have to wait long, And any misgivings I may have had were dispelled after the initial consultation with Dr. Noguera. Suddenly, I was face to face with someone who knew what she was doing, and what she had to deal with. There was no question that a surgery would ensue. I knew and expected that. What I did not expect was that Dr. Noguera would make me feel unafraid and confident that things would all be fine. Not even my late doctor in Washington made me feel that. I did not feel any pain or discomfort during the surgery. On the other hand, I imagine Dr. Noguera experienced some challenges during the procedure considering the worsened state of my cataracts. The subsequent post-op consultations were equally reassuring. I have since resumed my travels, and it is wonderful to be able to read signs again, appreciate colors, recognize faces, and admire the beautiful surroundings around me. In essence, Dr. Noguera gave me a new pair of eyes and it is due to her expertise and humane way of dealing with patients that I am now able to lead a new life full of dynamic colors and vibrant sceneries.

Dad’s cataract surgery experience @ Asian Eye Institute ‍⚕️
My dad was diagnosed with cataract last year. He is a patient of Asian Eye under Dr.Robert Ang since 2013. When they met again in 2020, Dr.Ang suggested that his cataracts be removed.
Pre-op: He underwent meticulous cataract screening. There were series of tests done to make sure the doctor will be able to recommend the type of intraocular lens to be implanted so my dad can have clear vision again. He also had to do undergo rt-pcr and secured clearances before the operation.
Surgery day: He was assisted by our lovable staff, nurses and doctors to make sure that his surgery will be a success. The surgery time itself was fast and painless!
Post-op: My dad’s eyes are healing well. We also found out that his eye grade dropped from 275 to 50 in his day 1 post op! And it will continue to go down as he heals. Thank you Asian Eye and Dr. Ang! Road to 20/20 vision is real!!!

At first, I was afraid to undergo cataract surgery. I even almost backed out right before the operation. But because I know I’m in good hands with Asian Eye and with Dr. Robert Ang, I was confident I’ll have a successful surgery. And I’m glad that I had my cataract surgery done at Asian Eye. Now, I can enjoy having a clear vision for the rest of my life.

Therefore, I was convinced on going to Manila to have a screening done to evaluate my vision, most importantly if I needed any corrective measures. After organizing a visit at the Institute and having the screening, I was informed that I had stages of cataract in both eyes. Over the next few e-mails with Dr. Ang, he suggested surgery not only to correct this problem but also to have lenses implanted to the extent that I would have better vision. He also suggested that I look up via the Internet the FDA-approved Crystalens that would best serve my needs. Most recently, I had the procedure done, and I must say the entire process was painless and successful to the extent that my cataract problem was solved and my vision had improved tremendously as well. From the beginning to the end over the two-week initial process, the staff and management of the Institute, especially Dr. Robert Ang, were exceptional. I felt very comfortable with the procedure in general, but also with Dr. Ang and his associates. The trust that I felt was one of the important aspects in having the procedure done. I came through this with positive results. I strongly recommend Asian Eye Institute and Dr. Robert Ang and their staff.

“The impression one gets of AEI is that everybody has a reassuring confidence in his role in administering the medical attention sought, be it diagnosis, treatment or surgery. My cataract surgery in December, 2008 was my first surgical experience in all my seventy years at that time, and I was very anxious about the procedure. However, the calm demeanor and caring attention of the medical professionals who prepared me for surgery moderated my anxiety. Dr. Robert Edward Ang, my attending surgeon, obviously did an excellent job on my right eye because the procedure was over without my feeling any pain or discomfort. I felt so good about the experience that I had a similar surgery on my left eye this May. My friends who ask me about the surgery are amazed at how pleased I was with the experience. I tell them I can now see well enough to drive myself to the golf course and I can see the tree lined fairways and manicured greens in living color. But best of all, I can see and lovingly appreciate how kind the years have been to my wife. Thank you, AEI ! “

I had my left eye operated last November 2008 and it was a successful one. I didn’t have any complications unlike what I heard from my friends who had their surgery done elsewhere. After a month, I was confident to have my other eye surgery done. And now, i don’t have to wear my eyeglasses anymore.

I traveled from Hawaii to AEI to have my surgery. I chose AEI because of it’s reputation and experience of the doctors. As I planned my visit to the Philippines, I had email and phone contact with AEI’s staff and was pleasantly surprised to have my questions answered proficiently and immediately on the different possibilities for vision correction, and after thorough testing at the clinic, an IOL was recommended. The lastest advances in the field of vision correction are a part of what makes AEI a leader in vision correction surgery and care. I am pleased with the quality and kind attention given by the staff and surgical team. The professionalism was reassuring and the facility suite was well equipped and most convenient. Best of all, I now have an excellent vision as a result.

Blephex = eyelid cleaning Sobrang tired ng eyes ko since super babad ako sa gadgets because of my lifestyle. Also, post-LASIK check-up ko na rin naman, kaya I asked if pwede ba ako mag-Blephex. I read that it’s like a spa for the eyes. I got the approval from Dr. Ang, and immediately after my check-up, nagproceed na ako sa 9F and then with the Blephex na. I didn’t feel any pain! Medyo nakakakiliti siya, then pinapatakan ng eyedrops from time to time. After the treatment, super gaan na ng eyes ko! Hindi na pagod tumingin sa TV and laptop! Will definitely do this again in the future!

I’ve always wondered if all that screen time because of ODL would have an effect on my boys’ eyesight. Thankfully after a check up at Asian Eye Institute, they still have 20 20 vision. Whew! Our quick visit at @asianeyeinstitute was very pleasant and most importantly, I really appreciate the extra measures they take in making us feel safe the entire time. The team and Dr. Lingao were amazing with my boys. Very thorough and warm. Thank you @aphylicia for scheduling this check up for us! Since Alonzo’s entropion repair for both his lower eyelids when he was 4 and my LASIK procedure few years ago, I know my family is in good hands with @asianeyeinstitute

This should also be my Halloween costume. This is a photo of me, last Friday, getting ready for corneal collagen cross-linking. It’s a procedure to help with an eye condition called keratoconus, which I found out I had a few weeks ago. However, with support from people in my life, and the help of Dr Cruz, Dr Ang, and all of the amazing people at @asianeyeinstitute, my journey will hopefully end with better vision than before. At least, with the help of some special, maybe magic, contact lenses. – Everyone should go to get their eyes checked, because you never know when life is going to slice you a piece of plot twist when you’re not looking. If you’re in Manila, this place is nice. – Now eye’ll slip back into my lair to dodge photons like The Matrix.

I just wanted to share our experience with you, which I hope will encourage you to schedule an eye exam for the entire family too ️ ‍ ‍ ❤️Last week, we visited @asianeyeinstitute and discovered that our 3 year old Astrid has been dealing with blurry vision all this time–her grade is already at 400!! Because we have been on lockdown mode since she was a baby, getting her eyes checked was never on my list. And since she has always been such an agile, active and fearless kid (climbing trees, doing her daredevil stunts and swimming like a pro) we never suspected that she had issues with her eyesight. She has always been so confident with her movement, di talaga namin naisip na nahihirapan pala sya sa mata! She never complained, never giving us any indication that she was struggling I am just so thankful that my friends encouraged me to make time for the kids to have their eyes examined. I am so relieved that the doctors spotted it early and that we now have a better understanding of our daughter’s needs. It’s amazing how one simple eye exam can be so incredibly liberating and life changing for a young kid ❤️ So parents here on IG, I would like you to consider having your kids’ eyes checked at @asianeyeinstitute. The doctors and staff made it such a pleasant and safe experience for our family. Kids had their masks properly worn the whole time, we just had a shot of the mask dropping down when the kids wore their lenses, which we immediately adjusted. Proper mask wearing is crucial and the clinic has strict protocols in place which we were happy to follow for everyone’s safety. Shout out to Ms. Audrey, Dr. Paul, Dr. Michelle, Dr. Ruth, Dr. Fleur, and the rest of the team. We will always be so grateful. And of course, Thank you Jesus for blessing Astrid with such a secure and vibrant personality, I am so amazed that she was still able to thrive given her 400 grade. ❤️ Yesterday we got her new glasses and she can see clearly now. She is still getting used to having them on, but I can already see how it will really change things for her. What a timely blessing, such a gift to celebrate it’s a small- big thing for us!

Comprehensive Eye Exam

So just a week before my trip to South Africa, I noticed a bump forming in my under eye area. At first, I dismissed it as just an insect bite and didn’t pay any attention to it. But then 4 days passed and it was still there, growing slightly more visible and more tender to the touch. There was a small pebble-like growth forming and I had a feeling it was not just a random “bite”. I immediately thought of Cat and Nicole’s eye treatments in Asian Eye Institute, they raved constantly about the success of their laser treatments for their vision and so I had to ask them to connect me to the best eye doctors in the country. Luckily, I was able to schedule a quick check up the following Tuesday in Asian Eye Rockwell. It was revealed during the doctor’s examination that I did develop a little cyst in my under eye area that needed to be extracted. A lot of things can cause cysts to form in your eye area, a quick google search will tell you this: “The transfer of dirt, debris, and bacteria into or around your eyes can lead to the formation of these unsightly lumps or cysts.” I still don’t know the exact culprit–it could be anything really, from a dirty makeup brush in one of my many shoots, dust and germs from my surroundings, or small debris that entered my eye while being out and about. If I had gone sooner perhaps it wouldn’t have been so inflamed yet that it could’ve been treated with medication. But the size and condition of the cyst was already a cause for worry and so the doctor’s advise was to do an incision to drain it out completely. The word incision left me petrified. And the vain Patty in me was more worried about the aftermath than the actual surgery—would this leave a scar? Would it leave me black and blue? Will my right eye look bigger than the left? How will my photos look now?!?!?! GAAAH!!!! But I had to do it immediately before it would get worse so I scheduled the minor procedure for the following day—which happened to be Patrick’s birthday too! I apologized 20 times for ruining his birthday but he too felt the urgency of having it done. On May 3 just around lunch time, I had a minor procedure done to my right eye to take out the cyst. The calm and composed Dr. Amadeo Veloso had the gentlest of hands, so light and graceful, I could barely feel anything! Mind you, I was fully awake during the whole procedure which took a brief 15 minutes. The only thing that hurt for a millisecond was the injection for anesthesia—as soon as the anesthesia took effect, Dr. Veloso started the procedure and I felt zero pain the whole time.  I was so impressed by how fast it took and how comfortable I was the whole time. I think getting parking in Rockwell may have actually taken longer (and was more painful! hahaha). Dr. Veloso also walked me through the whole process, explaining carefully and calmly what he was going to do so I understood it well. He explained that the incision would be from the inside of the eyelid so as not to leave an unsightly scar on the outside. PHEW! Music to my ears! The nurses too were very warm and accommodating, they definitely put me at ease . After the procedure, I was able to head home right away. They covered my eyes with a soft bandage and told me to keep it there for 4 hours. I was prescribed a full week’s worth of antibiotics and some anti-inflammatory drops. I was also told I could take some pain killers after the anesthesia wears out—but you know what, I didn’t even have to take a single tablet! My healing was absolutely pain free! It was like my eyes were back to normal in an instant. Of course, it’s really a case-to-case situation. Each person’s condition is unique and so the downtime for each patient can also differ. But I’m happy to report that I personally experienced no pain and discomfort after the procedure. The only downside was having some small swelling and a bit of bruising which quickly went away after a few days. I just steered clear of any makeup to be sure and I was wearing some hipster glasses (without grade!) to keep me looking decent for 3-4 days! Hahaha! It felt great to finally get rid of that CYST-er!!! I went in for another check up a week after and everything looked a-okay! It was a successful procedure and I could finally breathe again. I have nothing but thanks to extend to ASIAN EYE INSTITUTE!!! To Dr. Veloso, the nurses and staff, Audrey and Cha, THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! You just have no idea how much you have blessed me  And to everyone who prayed and offered some words of encouragement, thanks also! If you are experiencing any discomfort or pain in the eye area, don’t delay, have it checked immediately.

Always satisfied with the excellent service I receive from Asian Eye Institute, most especially from Dra. We had a reason to celebrate today! After my son’s Entropion repair for both his lower lids, his vision has improved! No more glasses!!! Got both my sons (4 and 2 years old) checked this afternoon at the @asianeyeinstitute and I couldn’t contain my happiness when Dra. Lingao said they had 20 20 vision! Never too early to have your precious little ones checked. Thank you Dr. Kleiner for being with us from day 1.

Entropion

I began experiencing dizziness and blurred vision earlier this year. It was the mixed feelings of thrill and fear. Was it time for me to finally get prescription glasses? I’d secretly always wanted a pair because call it cliche, wearing eyeglasses sorta makes you look smarter. So I thought I’d give it more time to see if I really need to see an optometrist. A few weeks of foggy sight later, I decided to post a recommendation request on FB to see where I can have my eyesight checked. After seeing my friends different clinic and optometrist recommendations. From generic mall kiosks to specialists, I finally decided to visit Asian Eye Institute in Trinoma Around 15 years ago or so, I had a “refraction” just to check if my vision was still 20/20. The generic eye clinics had a basic machine and regular reading of fonts in a variety of sizes. I noticed the check-up in Asian Eye Institute was more in-depth and thorough. Aside from the usual machine refraction, the optometrist checked my sight left and right, using different methods to see if my vision was really impaired. Not only that, they had me see another doctor to diagnose if the change in my eyesight was caused by glaucoma, cataract, etc with the use a “bump” test. She put a few drops of medicine in my eye that’s a little stingy. It was something you’d appreciate when getting a check-up because it was really extra. You can imagine how I felt when the optometrist told me I needed to wear glasses…. THRILLED! I had a reason to wear glasses without feeling like a poseur.   Source: https://www.kikaysikat.com/asian-eye-institute-rates-review-first-time-wearing-glasses.html
